Effective: May 25, 2018

At TeachBoost, we believe transparency is very important to maintaining your trust and the ways we use cookies are integral to that. This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, the different types of cookies we use, how we use them, and most importantly how to control your cookies.

In our Privacy Policy we state that we use cookies and briefly explain that use. Our Cookie Policy is an extension of our Privacy Policy and by continuing to use our Site and Service, you are agreeing to the use of cookies and similar technologies for the purposes described in this policy.

What are cookies and why do we use them?

Most websites you visit have been using cookies for decades to improve your online experience. Cookies are small text files, stored in your browser or on your hard drive, that allow a website to differentiate between you and its other visitors.

The biggest benefit for us (and other sites that use cookies) is to remember who you are without asking you every time you access our Site. For example, every time you visit TeachBoost we can log you in automatically and remember your preferences. Plus, we can keep you logged in as you move around the site and give you a personalized experience.

The different types of cookies

Cookies have a few different attributes and we’ll refer to them when we describe the ones we use. Cookies can be either first-party or third-party depending on who creates them, and session-only or persistent depending on how long they last.

  • First-party cookies: cookies that TeachBoost creates and puts on your device.

  • Third-party cookies: cookies set by another company through TeachBoost. These provide a service or function that TeachBoost pays for and are used by us, but because another entity owns them we cannot control how they’re used.

  • Session cookies: these are only stored on your device during a single visit to the website using them (called a “browser session”) and they are deleted as soon as you close your browser. Session cookies let you use a website without having to login on every page reload.

  • Persistent cookies: similar to session cookies but these do not get destroyed after you close your browser window—they remain on your device until they are set to expire or you choose to delete them (as you can with any cookie). Persistent cookies are activated every time you visit the website that created them.

Types of cookies we use

TeachBoost uses various combinations of the different types of cookies for a few different purposes:

These cookies help us ensure that your password is correct, that you are a TeachBoost user, and that you stay logged in when you move between pages on the Site and Service.

Features and personalization

Used to recognize you when you return to the Site, enabling us to personalize our content for you automatically. These cookies remember details like your name, email address, and group permissions so that we don't have to ask you all the time and they tailor TeachBoost for you and your organization.

Tracking and analytics

Tracking cookies collect information about how you use the Site and Service, such as which pages you visit, what interactions you make, and if you experience any errors. We only use them to improve how TeachBoost works, understand what features are being used or unused, and how to manage our infrastructure better to optimize performance and manage load.

This category of cookies includes third-party cookies, like Google Analytics and Intercom. We do not share or sell any of this information and we never use it for advertising purposes.

Here’s a table of the specific ones that we put on your device through your use of the Site or Service:

Your control over cookies

We suggest you accept all cookies from us to get all the benefits of using TeachBoost. It is always possible to manage and block cookies, however, using your web browser or third-party opt-out settings from the table above. Unless you have adjusted your browser settings, our systems will issue cookies as soon as you visit the Site. Please remember that if you change your browser settings to block all cookies (including authentication cookies) you may not be able to access some or all parts of our site.

You can also set your browser to alert you every time a site sets a cookie or install browser extensions to view and manage them.

Our Do-Not-Track policy

We do not use cookie for advertising purposes. The third-party tracking cookies we use are for the express purpose of analyzing your behavior internally to better build and support TeachBoost.

Some browsers have “do not track” features that allow you to tell a website not to track you. We do not currently respond to these signals as we do not engage in any tracking for advertising purposes, only internal analytics.
